The governing body for Sport Horse Racing in Australia — bringing riders of all ages together through skill, stamina, and speed.
Sporting Horse Australia (SHA) is the governing body for Sport Horse Racing in Australia. We provide professionally run events across Victoria, keeping costs minimal while welcoming riders of all ages and abilities on any breed.
Our mission is simple — grow the sport, support our riders, and make race days accessible and enjoyable for everyone, from first-timers to seasoned competitors.
There are individual races where you compete against other horses; there are also individually timed events. Horses that compete in sport horse racing can be of any breed, but they should be athletic, fast on their feet, and most of all have an excellent mind that can concentrate under extreme pressure. SHA holds come & try days throughout our off-season to help prepare you for the season proper, and beginners can compete in the novice section.
Our season runs through spring and summer with race meets held across Victoria, building towards state and national titles.
We offer divisions for every level, from young riders just starting out to experienced Open competitors. "Up one" categories let riders challenge themselves at the next level.
Whether you're a complete beginner or transferring from another equestrian discipline, getting into Sport Horse Racing is straightforward.
