The Most Exciting Thing You Can Do on a Horse

Sporting Horse Australia (SHA) is the governing body for Sport Horse Racing in Australia. We provide professionally run events across Victoria, keeping costs minimal while welcoming riders of all ages and abilities on any breed.

Our mission is simple — grow the sport, support our riders, and make race days accessible and enjoyable for everyone, from first-timers to seasoned competitors.

What is Sport Horse Racing?

There are individual races where you compete against other horses; there are also individually timed events. Horses that compete in sport horse racing can be of any breed, but they should be athletic, fast on their feet, and most of all have an excellent mind that can concentrate under extreme pressure. SHA holds come & try days throughout our off-season to help prepare you for the season proper, and beginners can compete in the novice section.

  • 🏇 Open to any breed — horses should be athletic, fast, and focused under pressure
  • 👶 All ages welcome — from under-11s through to Open division
  • 🏟 We hold come & try days throughout the off-season for newcomers
  • Beginners can compete in the novice section at every show
